self defence classes in private or group instruction in Sydney East
|
The ultimate aim of the self defence training in a series of classes is to equip you with the skills to defend yourself in situations of fight or flight.
No ‘style’ of martial arts is taught, but rather its principles of:
self awareness that will minimise being caught in situations of threat;
diffusion of potential physical threat and the role and
mindfulness about the choice of circumstances,
While practising the skills to defend yourself against the most commonly encountered threats to your person, that are designed to be acquired quickly.
Classes are suitable for both beginners and more advanced students (male and female, adults and teenagers) and will develop focus, skill and awareness through participation in interactive two-person drills. Techniques for deterring bullies are learnt at the outset.
For school teachers, a concise and effective training program is available. Refer to the following article from Sydney Morning Herald for background to the benefits of self-defence skills and awareness in the teaching profession.
The health and personal safety benefits of a self-defence regime

Practising martial arts produces immediate benefits, such as greater flexibility and increased personal awareness. After only a short time, the concept and practice of prior knowledge, preparation and prevention will assist your handling of threat.
A greater sense of self-possession comes with having the various 'tools' of self-defence at hand: our main intention is to go and return unharmed, and our increased ability to do so results in confidence and diminishment of fear. Relaxation and awareness, rather than hyper-vigilance, are the keys to attaining self-defence skills and lead naturally to a more centred and harmonious existence.
The exercises and drills of self-defence training are adapted from those that have been used and refined over hundreds of years as a counter to the physical deterioration of aging. The surplus of energy in the body that is created in the practice contributes to physical and psychological health through the promotion of fitness, flexibility, co-ordination and focus in each participant.
Conditions of ill-health, tension often being the cause, may also improve or be completely cured as inner energy accumulates. The exercises are gentle and refined with the effect of massaging the internal organs; bones, sinews and the blood system are strengthened. As practice continues, the energy pathways in the body are opened; the accumulation and circulation of vital energy will be felt throughout the body. This process is refined in on-going practice.
People of all ages and states of health are equally able to practice.
