My first karate instructor was SA JKA Karate's Stan Schmidt.
After my departure from SA and return from San Fransisco I studied with Sifu Edward Jardine taiji, karatejutsu and kobujutsu. Sifu Jardine encouraged me to join him in Japan under Grandmaster Inoue Motakatsu. I lived in Shimizu, Shizuoka, Japan for two years and during this time trained at the dojo in Shimizu, taught drums and English, ran a karoke club until two years later moved to Australia.
My personal experience of running Karaoke clubs in Japan and providing security to Japanese Companies within the industry as well as security for concerts and club events, both for my own company and others has honed my skills in awareness, focus and polite non-aggressive crowd and security control.
I have provided security in San Fransisco, South Africa, Japan and Australia both for private and corporate clubs and music event organizers.
Under the guidance of Spiritual Master Vereesh
(Danny Suchon Sanchez) at the Humaniversity in Egmond aan Zee in Holland, I practiced meditation and group work for many years training Osho-do.
Here in Australia, I first trained taekwondo, kick boxing, boxing and aijutsu
and later discovered Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy
and The International Ryu Kyu Karate Research Society.
I was graded first Dan in Karate-jutsu and Kobu-jutsu in 1998 by Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy during this time training in Koryu Uchinadi under Sensei Marc Mathews (Australian Chief Instructor and Sensei Roland Gill) attending as many seminars With Kyoshi McCarthy as possible.
My previous system of study was Ryu Kyu Karate-Jutsu and Kobu-jutsu of which I obtained black belts in both systems.
Training this system is divided into; Toshu - Jutsu (empty hand arts) and Emono-Jutsu (weapons arts).
The former comprises different ranges of kicking, punching, locking, throwing and grappling techniques and the latter mainly the Ryu Kyu weapons such as sai, tonfa, kama and nunchaka which I practise. There are many Katas both in the Karate syllabus and the weapons system. I have retained and practise those I consider valuable.
In 2003 I began teaching children at Crown Street Public School, Matraville Soldiers Settlement Public School, Botany Bay Public School and more recently teaching Self Defence Classes at Kincoppal, Kambala, Sceggs, Ascham, Queenwood, Rose Bay Secondary College and for individuals interested in personal training instruction and for other groups.
I borrow from the systems I have previously studied and work diligently on those aspects which suit my abilities, and it is for students to experience the personal benefits of this training and draw their own conclusions.
While taiji (tai chi), qigong (chi Kung) and karate were created in faraway countries, often by enlightened Masters, they now belong to the universe and all its people. Find some teacher that resonates with your being and you will be true to yourself.
The movements and meditation form a part of each systems philosophical and spiritual methods of introspection and are joined together harmoniously.
After 35 years of training in different styles from JKA karate as a teenager, boxing and kick boxing (my dad was a former S.A. Army Boxing Champion) to taiji and shaolin qigong, white crane and Japanese and Chinese weapons systems in recent years, the path and way of martial arts has protected and nourished me in times of hardship and kept me healthy with few illnesses over these many years....
I now concentrate my efforts on private students and school seminars plus self defence classes for private and public schools and individuals which form the basis of my work in and around Sydney.
