| Larry Friedberg curriculum vitae - karate-jutsu and kobu-jutsu
training to suit your individual style and personality I borrow from the systems I have previously studied and work diligently on those aspects which suit my abilities, and it is for students to experience the personal benefits of this training and draw their own conclusions. I was graded first Dan in Karate-jutsu and Kobu-jutsu in 1998 by Kyoshi Patrick McCarthy. My previous system of study was Ryu Kyu Karate-Jutsu and Kobu-jutsu of which I obtained black belts in both systems. training in karate and weapons systems is divided into; The former comprises different ranges of kicking, punching, locking, throwing and grappling techniques and the latter mainly the Ryu Kyu weapons such as sai, tonfa, kama and nunchaka which I hardly practise anymore being prohibited weapons and having few students interested in weapons training. "The warrior must be a scholar and the scholar a warrior. The pen and the sword are not separate. We train the body to educate the mind and a healthy mind will in turn teach the body. This is a lesson in balance". - Motokatsu Inoue The practice of Karate can also lead to understanding the concepts of Zen and Japanese/Okinawan philosophy and spiritual beliefs. In 2003 I began teaching children at Crown Street Public School, Matraville Soldiers Settlement Public School, Botany Bay Public School and more recently teaching self defence classes at Kincoppal, Kambala, Sceggs, Ascham, Queenwood, Rose Bay Secondary College and for individuals and groups. I now concentrate my efforts on private students and school seminars. |
